Beaches in Kefalonia

Kefalonia beaches are among the most beautiful ones to swim and sunbathe in the Mediterranean. Thousands of travelers pay a visit to them every year, yet the waters remain azure and crystal clear.

MYRTOS BEACH

Myrtos is undoubtedly the most renowned beach. It constitutes the ultimate destination to enjoy the wonderful waters of the Ionian during your holidays in Kefalonia. It is located on the northern part of the island, 29 km away from Argostoli. The beach boasts a semi-circular shape and is full of fine white pebbles.

Dense vegetation cloaks the rocky cliffs that, along with the interchange of hues of blue in the waters, create magnificent scenery. The sea gets quite deep, around two meters from the shore, making the beach a risky option for families with little children. A part of Myrtos remains pristine, yet the beach is organized to the most extent.

Except for Myrtos, numerous parts of the coastline are more than worthy of a visit during your vacation in Kefalonia.

ANTISAMOS BEACH

Antisamos, featured in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, is a well-organized beach with shiny white pebbles and turquoise waters 2 kilometers away from Sami. Even though it is popular among families, an area for naturists lies behind the neighboring hill.

MAKRIS GIALOS BEACH

Makris Gialos is situated 3 kilometers south of Argostoli and is one of the most frequented beaches on the island. The beach boasts shiny golden sand, azure waters, and beach equipment.

It is family-friendly and easily accessed via all means of transportation.

PLATIS GIALOS BEACH

Platis Gialos, located adjacent to Makris Gialos, is a sandy, well-organized beach preferred by both locals and tourists, as well as families.

SKALA BEACH

The beach of Skala lies on the southern part of Kefalonia and is considered a favorite destination for all types of bathers. The coast is long and covered with coarse and fine sand, while the waters are azure and crystal clear.

The area is partly organized; nonetheless, secluded spots are available for visitors who seek more privacy.

LOURDAS BEACH

Lourdas is famous for being well-organized. The beach is located approximately 17 kilometers southeast of Argostoli and possesses white sand, along with small pebbles and crystalline waters.

FOKI BEACH

Foki lies in proximity to Fiskardo village in the northern region of Kefalonia. It’s a non-equipped pebbly beach ideal for travelers and families seeking tranquility. It is located within a small cove, boasts marvelous waters, and is a favorite among seals.

PETANI BEACH

Last but not least, Petani on the western side of Kefalonia has not only a sandy beach with scattered pebbles but also cerulean, clean waters which deepen right away.

This partly-organized beach is often affected by the wind, resulting in the formation of high waves; families with small children and people with mobility issues are discouraged from visiting Petani since they will probably struggle with swimming.

Lush vegetation surrounds all beaches, which, coupled with the splendid clear waters, offer striking sights that bewitch every visitor.
